Pine Tree Socks

Thanks to Anni, I have discovered some wonderful socks. They are the Pine Tree Socks from Katherine Misegades. Her name may be familiar to you from her beautiful collection The Tongue River Farm Sock Collection.

The Pine Tree Socks feature knit and purl trees along the front and back and a small cable decorating the sides. Aren't they sleek and pretty? Don't they look warm? I think they will be perfect for living at Pine Cone Lodge this winter. And not just because of the name, though that's a bonus. Pine Cone Lodge can be pretty chilly!

Like Katherine, we also have tall spruces around our house, and I can see why she would not want to take hers down. They add so much character and atmosphere.

Katherine Misegades' blog features many beautiful designs for both socks, sweaters, hats, and scarves, along with thoughtful, inspiring quotes. This awesome sweater reminds me of a traditional Norwegian pullover called a "vams". She also has several free sock patterns.

My last pair of socks had some lace, and maybe it's not so practical to have wool socks with holes in them... doesn't that defeat the purpose of staying warm? I think it might be a good time for me to start on some socks again. :)

  1. Thank you for your kind words. You have inspired me to knit another pair. I have pine green Dalegarn Heilo DK weight. That way, when I put them on, I'll think of the pine cone lodge.

  2. Great pattern! I think depends on where you are, lace wool socks do keep you warm ... but maybe not warm enough for really snowy climate. :)

  7. Socks are fun to have in the knitting basket. When you get to the end of your rope with a big project, socks can stand in and be almost immediate gratification. Love the pattern. And Tongue River Farms. Have fun with your next pair of socks.

  11. Your socks are so beautiful, but so is that lace shawl! It looks great on Pippi, though I know she was a nervous model. :)

How is your embroidery coming along? Your photo reminded me of a crewel kit I took along with me to the new house. I started it ten years ago too, and discovered I dislike working with such a tiny needle, but I can't bring myself to not finish it *someday.* I hope you eventually find your pattern book!

  13. Oh - and my lace socks are strictly for fall. You need the really heavy duty ones if you want to have feet after the winter. :D In fact, I'm pretty sure last winter I only wore stranded socks!

  14. I cast on those very socks earlier this summer in a lime dk yarn! Lime? Because when those pine trees polinate we have bright green pollen everywhere! I really like yours in the natural color. You have inspired me to finish mine instead of letting them sit in the UFO basket.
